It was a huge shock to all when David Beckham announced he was going to the United States to play for the LA Galaxy. Many people questioned his decision, and not many people thought that the MLS would be the best place for a player of his caliber. But, in early 2007, he made his way stateside and joined the team.
It wasn’t until July of that year that he actually saw his first on field action with the Galaxy. The results he achieved were less than stellar. Regardless, he was awarded the captaincy of the team, and he tried his best to lead them towards the playoffs.
In August of 2007, he injured his knee and was unable to play. Because they lost their star player, the Galaxy narrowly missed a playoff spot for that year, and was eliminated for the 2007 season.
He once again played for the Galaxy for the 2008 season, but once again they missed the playoffs. After the season was over, he returned to play with Milan on a temporary basis.
But, after returning from Milan, many fans had changed their opinion of him. They no longer greeted him with cheers and excitement – they taunted him and called him a fraud. They didn’t think he was dedicating as much time and effort to the Galaxy as they thought, and they let him know about it.
David continues to split time between Milan and the LA Galaxy. It will be interesting to see what happens after his contract is up, as his family has set down roots here and probably wouldn’t seem thrilled about moving across the world again!
